چکیده

A novel front projection system is introduced for the purpose of material and color design. The system explores techniques for simulation of color on real objects lit by projectors. Choice of size, shape, and color of the target projection object is considered. Ambient lighting conditions are controlled, and a second projector is used as the light source. This permits the target projection object to be “cut out” from the light source, allowing for a realistically lit scene without “washing out” the simulated color. The surrounding environment is captured using high dynamic range environment maps in order to realistically simulate glossy materials. Metallic colors are emphasized, but the principles and conclusions also extend to the simulation of

Animating Real Objects with Image-Based Illumination

We describe a new paradigm for three-dimensional computer graphics, using projectors to graphically animate physical objects in the real world. The idea is to replace a physical object—with its inherent color, texture, and material properties—with a neutral object and projected imagery, reproducing the original (or alternative) appearance directly on the object. Because the approach is to effec...

Photometric and Chromatic Calibration for Multi-Projector Tiled Displays

We address the problem of calibrating the colors of a multiple projector tiled display. Differences in the characteristics of the projectors lead to varying color and intensity among the tiles of the display. These differences do generally not only arise between two different projectors, but also between different spatial locations on the projected surface of one single projector. In this paper...

Spatially uniform colors for projectors and tiled displays

Alain Pagani Didier Stricker Abstract — A major issue when setting up multi-projector tiled displays is the spatial non-uniformity of the color throughout the display’s area. Indeed, the chromatic properties do not only vary between two different projectors, but also between different spatial locations inside the displaying area of one single projector. A new method for calibrating the colors o...

Color Balancing Experimental Projection Displays

Experimental, tiled displays made of commodity projectors provide a relatively easy and cost effective way to explore “on the wall” viewing and interaction. To color balance the display, each projector must be characterized and mapped to a common gamut. Projectors with three imaging elements and three filters can be characterized by a simple extension to the monitor calibration model. However, ...
